Mustafa Malik is the host and editor of the blog Muslim Journey. He has been a journalist, blogger and international affairs commentator, based in Washington. He writes mostly about U.S. foreign policy, sources of religious extremism and terrorism, impact of modernity and globalization on postcolonial societies, and challenges facing liberal and democratic institutions in the East as well as the West.

Over the years Malik’s writings have been published in the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Chicago Tribune, Boston Globe, and other American, Middle Eastern and South Asian newspapers and journals.

He conducted fieldwork on U.S. policy options in the Middle East, Islamic extremism and terrorism, nationalist experiments in the Indian subcontinent, and Turkey’s relations with the European Union. He pursued his investigations as a research fellow for the University of Chicago Middle East Center, German Marshall Fund of the United States and other research organizations. Earlier, he worked as a reporter, editor and columnist for the Hartford Courant, Washington Times, Glasgow Herald, and other newspapers.

Malik has shared his thoughts on international affairs issues on many American and overseas radio and television programs. He also has served as a panelist at seminars and workshops in the United States, Europe, Turkey, Pakistan and India.
